It is a loose remake of Ingmar Bergman's THE VIRGIN SPRING (1960), but few people would watch Wes Craven's THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT (1972) expecting profound philosophical contemplation or evocative symbolism. The movie is about bloody revenge being taken after horrible violence and so its appeal is in its lurid subject matter and the chills and catharsis it promises.   … more

This movie is the GREATEST vampire epic EVER! It has everything--a great looking female lead, romance, action and even drama. People should go out and buy the movies since they are now either $4 or $ 5 in BBuy! I mean, movies like this come once in a lifetime. This is better than Star Wars, anything Tarantino has made, Lord of the Rings, anything Ridley Scott has made or Spielberg for that matter, … more
A serial murderer nicknamed the 'necktie killer' is terrorizing women in London, and Richard Blaney (Jon Finch), seen at the wrong place at the wrong time, becomes the chief suspect. How to prove his innocence? Alfred Hitchcock's next-to-last film has a very English feel to it with an all-British cast and gritty London locations. Void of scares but with grotesque … more
It is often considered a red flag when a director decides to obscure his or her involvement in a film by adopting the infamous Alan Smithee pseudonym, a name now synonymous with “bad” movies. When director Michael Gottlieb does so after proudly displaying his name on Mannequin, Mr. Nanny, and A Kid in King Arthur’s Court, you end up with enough red flags to open a used car lot. … more
Hayden Christiensen won Worst Supporting Actor for this film -- regardless, I did enjoy the fight scenes, seeing the Attack of the Wookies and other fun scenes. The ending however was rushed but there's nothing like seeing Vader with his helmet on. This film is on par with Empire Strikes Back.
**1/2 out of **** As a devote fan of director Dario Argento's work in the horror genre, ranging exclusively from the 70's to the 80's into the early 90's, I have this odd, unexplainable belief that if there is no nostalgia to a modern Argento effort; there is also no effort, or style, and no entertainment value. This belief hasn't been proven invalid since I first proposed it … more
**** out of **** Mascagni's "Cavalleria Rusticana" is a beautiful song. I have heard it in a great many films, because I'm clearly not the only one to feel its divine power; although I think that Martin Scorsese's "Raging Bull" undoubtedly uses it best. The song plays over the opening credits; to the image of infamous boxer Jake LaMotta (Robert De Niro) doing a sort of victory … more
*** out of **** Sam Peckinpah's "Straw Dogs" was released in 1971 and was immediately misjudged, seemingly at the very moment of its arrival. It sent movie-goers either running for the hills - never to look back again - or scratching their chins in an attempt to find some sort of intellectual meaning for what they had just witnessed. The film itself was the story of a mathematician … more
Banderas is what drew me to this film. And he puts on an excellent performance here. In fact, all of the actors and actresses did well. It is an excellent film too but it is still getting a -2 rating from me. The problem, as far as I'm concerned, lies in the scripting. It is psychologically repulsive and unhealthy as far as I'm concerned. Somewhat like The Black Swan which many … more

Not all sap is bad ... What rescued this from the terminally sappy was all the appearances by the real coaches. I'm not a huge sports fan but have lived in the SEC most of my life so it was a but of cute realism that worked.
This is the largest budget movie where the camera almost never moves. I mean how much does it cost to pan or actually zoom instead of cut? Also the fight scenes lasted about a minute combined so apparently all the money went into CGI wolves and glitter (last time I checked glitter was still pretty cheap unless they have invented a kind that you can in fact wash off). Finally, acting? Hello, I'm convinced … more

Given how much water is involved in the flick I expected to need to make several trips to the bathroom. I didnt but the movie was so bad I really really wanted to have to go.

**** out of **** Sam Peckinpah's "Straw Dogs" is a stirring, often times riveting thriller; a film about violence, emotional destruction, social discrimination, and the limits of man. We've all seen movies like this for sure; there have been as many copycats as there have been predecessors. But who can put much blame on a filmmaker for having a keen eye for the violent acts … more
A well done yet still completely unnecessary remake of the Peckinpah classic, its only major flaw is the thematic shift from man's internal struggle between civilized man and his predominantly savage nature to the more simplistic elements of class warfare.
A genre blend that starts off strong despite the adherence to a multitude of western cliches, it all falls flat in the second act with the introduction of a lazy plot twist created for no other reason than to save the screenwriters the trouble of advancing the story through dialogue and character development, and give them an easy out for a typically lame Hollywood Happy Ending.
I'm a firm believer in that you shouldn't review something if you don't know the full story (or at least the background), like a person who doesn't play video games reviewing a video game movie or criticizing a Sci-fi film because you don't understand something or a better example me reviewing the Watchmen Movie. See i never read the graphic novel … more
Half a star out of **** Uwe Boll's "Alone in the Dark" has nothing to do with the somewhat-forgotten and underrated 1982 slasher film of the same name. It is, instead, a big-screen adaptation of the popular video game franchise; which comes to no surprise, since Boll is infamous for merging video games with cinema and creating the most repulsively bad and intellectually assaultive … more
PedroPedroPedro AlmodovarPedro Almodovar is one of my favorite directors and story tellers. His newest film, The Skin I Live In once more proves his genius. I don't want to say too much about the story because it would be wrong to give too much away. But Almodovar never ceases to amaze me. His movies are always complex. His characters are always off center. And his … more
